I am Justin Wilder, a local guy and a U.S. Navy veteran, and Wild Water Plumbing is veteran owned and operated. On the water
Barrier island and sound side. Salt air corrodes fittings from the outside in, the water table sits close to the surface, and storm surge finds every weakness in one weekend. Rental turnover means a lot of these houses get hard use from people who will not be the ones reporting the problem.

Low coastal plain
Flat ground that drains slowly, much of it graded before modern drainage was standard. Yards stay wet for days after a storm, which is hard on drain fields and hard on foundations, and it is where most of our French drain work happens.
County: Onslow
Well and septic country
Further inland, where a great many homes are on a private well and their own septic system rather than city utilities. Nobody tests that water but the homeowner, and a pump or a drain field out here is not somebody else's problem to fix.

Older Wilmington neighbourhoods
The Wilmington metro and the neighbourhoods around it, where plenty of houses are still running on the clay and cast iron they were built with. Roots find old jointed pipe, and cast iron corrodes from the inside where nobody can see it.

Ground that moves takes pipe joints with it. Settlement cracks lines and knocks joints out of alignment, which is where roots get in.

Water sitting close to the surface pushes back against crawl spaces, foundations, and drain fields all year round rather than just after rain.

A single weekend can do what settlement elsewhere takes years to do, and it finds whatever was already marginal.

Anything metal outdoors ages faster here. Hose bibs, fittings, and exposed lines all give up sooner than the same parts inland.

Roots do not break into sound pipe. They find a joint that has already opened, which is why older lines here suffer most.
