Is Your Sump Pump Ready for Jacksonville Storms? | Wild Water Plumbing
If you live in Jacksonville, Richlands, Swansboro, Hubert, Holly Ridge, or anywhere in Onslow County, you know how unpredictable our storms can be.
One minute it’s dry—the next, your crawl space is flooding.
The #1 question I ask homeowners this time of year: “When’s the last time you tested your sump pump?”
Most Sump Pumps Fail for Simple Reasons
It’s not always a big, expensive failure.
More often, it’s something small: the float’s stuck, debris is blocking the intake, or the outlet’s tripped.
And when that first downpour hits, a pump that’s been sitting quietly for months won’t always wake up in time.
Here’s How You Can Do a Quick Check
- Pour water into the pit. It should kick on quickly.
- Listen for strange sounds. Grinding, rattling, or humming could mean trouble.
- Check the power. Make sure the plug is secure and the circuit isn’t tripped.
- Look at your discharge line. Is it clear and pointing away from the house?
